Magic, music, death-defying illusions, theatre, dance, elaborate sets and dazzling costumes – Welcome to Singapore’s very own magic extravaganza presented by this dynamic father-daughter duo, under their magic-label, Magic of Lawrence & Priscilla. Their flagship illusion show Magic of Love is now well into its fifth season and continues to astound and mesmerise audiences with their brand of magical artistry. Since its debut at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in September 2001, this celebrated magic-musical production Magic of Love has played to more than 208,000 people around the world including Japan, Korea, East & West Malaysia, Thailand, Taiwan, Macau and major cities in China like Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Shenyang, Dalian, Nantong and Wuxi, and even in Las Vegas at the famed Legends of Magic show.
In 2002, Lawrence and Priscilla took centre stage with other world class artists to perform at the 4 th China Shanghai International Arts Festival. Hosted by the Ministry of Culture, this arts festival is committed to presenting the best in world culture and to encourage innovation while re-introducing the classics. Aspiring to promote magic as an art form in Singapore and to create more opportunities for amateur magicians to hone their craft, Lawrence and Priscilla organised the first-ever International Festival of Magic (IF Magic) in Singapore in 2003. Attracting a strong turnout of more than 950 local and foreign participants from Asia, the event also featured an Asian Pro Magic Challenge. Some 150 professional and amateur magicians – including Jeremy Pei and Joe Yu of Singapore, Kim Jung Kuk from Korea, Dai Peng Heng from China, Maebaya Kyoto from Japan, Panjarat Chairattine from Thailand, PJ Wen of Taiwan and Danny Cole from USA and many more – seized this long-awaited platform to publicly showcase their mastery of the art. The real show-stealer was, of course, none other the finale act featuring four indisputable masters of magic, Jeff McBride, Abbi Spinner, Eugene Burger and Max Maven – whose respective magic workshops also drew in large crowds. T he festival was such a resounding success that the duo re-organised another four-day International Festival ofMagic Convention in 2005.
2004 saw Magic of Love participating in the inaugural Singapore Yellow Ribbon Project Charity Concert at the Singapore Indoor Stadium, graced by the President of our Republic. Another source of national pride and joy for Lawrence and Priscilla came in 2005 when they were specially invited to perform at Singapore's 40th National Day Countdown Party . There, in a rousing performance, they displayed their patriotism for Singapore by magically ‘producing’ the Singapore flag during their act. In 2006, they flew to Hollywood, California to perform at the prestigious Academy of Magical Arts 2006 Awards Banquet, a ceremony devoted to the advancement of the art of magic and its history. That same year, they were in Tokyo and Magic of Love was the key performance commemorating the 40 th anniversary of Singapore’s establishment of diplomatic ties with Japan. Another milestone to note was in 2007, when they performed at the 10 th Nomura Investment Forum 2007 in Tokyo, Japan , a seminar attended by investors from all over the world, high-calibre CEOs from major Japanese companies and senior representatives from blue-chip investment companies of the Pan-Asian equity market.
In 2002, Lawrence and Priscilla embarked on Project SMILE (Sharing Magic In Love Everywhere) with a desire to do their part for the community by drawing on their magic talents. A first in the Asia Pacific region, this unique training program was conceptualised and pioneered by Lawrence to groom youths and adults in the art of magic so as to engage them in meaningful community service. Through this project, these volunteers aim to bring smiles to the faces of the less privileged members of the community. To date, they have successfully impacted the lives of more than 2,400 participants both locally and overseas, and touched the hearts of over 11,000 disadvantaged beneficiaries in day care centres, homes and hospitals.
