Registration

1. GENERAL
a) This contest is open to all stage magicians of all countries and regions. There is no limit to age or sex.

b) To qualify for the contest, each applicant must be a paid registrant of IF Magic 2005.
c) Application materials should include:
- Convention Registration form and Competition Registration Form *Note: All acts that utilise any form of fire, flares or smoke are required to be documented in the Pyrotechnic Section of the Competition Registration Form.
- A VHS/DVD/VCD/mini DV tape of the Competing Act (Note: The video recording need not be professionally done, but clarity is vital.)
- Detailed stage requirements for the Competing Act.
- Weight and Volume of the Properties.
- 4 photographs of the contestant - 2 passport size photos (4×3cm) with one attached to the application form and 2 glamour shots (13×18cm---20×25cm).

e) Application materials, photos and videotape will not be returned.

f) All finalists will be notified by 3 February 2005.

g) Finalists are responsible for their own travel expenses to and from Singapore. Finalists for Asian Pro Magic Challenge should arrive in Singapore no later than 12:00pm on 24 February 2005.

h) Nude performances or any other performance that contravenes Singapore laws are prohibited.

i) Competing Acts cannot be changed after being selected for the finals. The contestant will be disqualified if the Competing Act is different from the video demo selected by the Organizing Committee.

j) All contestants, by their participation in the contests, agree to all the decisions of the judges, which are without appeal.

k) Any prize-winning contestant may be asked by the Organizing Committee to repeat his performance without any fee for the All Star Magic Show on 27 Feb.

l) The Organizers retain the following rights during the competition: Press Interviews, Photography, Printing, Live Broadcast, Audio & Video Recordings, Producing & Selling of Video Recordings. No monetary compensations will be made for any of the afore mentioned, by the Organizing Committee.


2. AWARDS

a)Asian Magic Challenge (Stage Competition)
First Prize: US $2,000
Second Prize: US $1,000
Third Prize: US $500

b)Close Up Magic Challenge
First Prize: US $1,000
Second Prize: US $500
Third Prize: US $250


3. COMPETITION PERFORMANCES

a) Each contestant has to be ready to perform his act at least ten minutes before the scheduled time. Any contestant not ready on time may be disqualified.

b) All contestants must present a complete act (not a single trick) of at least 5 minutes and at most 10 minutes.

c) In front of the stage will be two electric lamps: a yellow one and a red one. After 9 minutes of the performance, the yellow lamp will be lighted. After the 10th minute, the red lamp will be lighted, showing to the contestant that he is over time and that he must end his performance at once. If the contestant carries on his act, the stage curtain will be closed at once and the contestant will be disqualified.

d) Disruption to a contestant act caused by the sound, lighting and stage personnel will be allowed to perform again.

e) All contestants should bring their own music on CD, MD or DAT format, and given to the Organizing Committee upon registration. A rundown of the music tracks and the contestant's name should be properly indicated.

f) The MC of the competition must simply introduce the competitors without comments on the acts.

g) The order of appearance of each competitor will be determined by the Organzing Committee according to the form and the content of each competitor's act.


4. SCORING PERFORMANCES

a) Both competition will be judged by an international jury of 7 members invited by the Organizing Committee and chaired by the organizer himself, Lawrence Khong.

b) The Organizing Committee will also select an official time-keeper for both competitions.

c) The Jury will judge all the contestants with fairness, and judge according to the merits of each performance.

d) Points will be awarded to each contestant on his showmanship, his equipment and his dressing, on his technical skill, on the originality of his performance and on its program (entertainment value). The weight of each of these scoring elements will be different according to the class of the performance, as indicated on the judging forms.

e) Each judge will give a total score up to 100 points to each contestant. After each contest performance, the scores on the judging forms will be added and the total and averaged among the judges.

f) As one of the key judging criteria is originality, contestants are strongly discouraged from performing an act that closely resembles well known acts. An obvious copy may even lead to disqualification.

g) At the end of the competition and after completion of primarily scoring, the scores will be handed to the President of the Jury, who will gather all the Judges in a meeting to award the different prizes.


5. INSURANCE
All participants are responsible for their own personal as well as properties insurance. The Organizing Committee shall not be held responsible for any injury, accident or loss of personal belonging occurring during their travel and participation in the competition.

6. ORGANIZERS

The International Festival of Magic 2005 (Singapore) is proudly presented by the Magic of Lawrence & Priscilla.

The Organizing Committee reserves the rights of interpreting the regulations as they see fit. The Organizing Committee retain the right to change the above stipulated rules and regulations without notification, written or verbal, as they deems fit.
